Taeromys punicans (Miller and Hollister 1921) View in CoL
[Rattus] punicans Miller and Hollister 1921 View in CoL , Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 34: 98.
Type Locality: Indonesia, C Sulawesi, Pinedapa, 100 ft (30 m).
Vernacular Names: Reddish-furred Taeromys.
Distribution: Sulawesi: known only from the central part and the SW peninsula.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Discussion: A lowland species represented by two specimens caught in 1918 from the type locality and a few subfossil fragments from the SW peninsula ( Musser, 1984). Other than that it inhabits tropical lowland evergreen rainforest, nothing is known about ecology of this species or its actual distribution over the island.
