Superfamilies Synxenoidea View in CoL and Polyxenoidea

The morphology of the family Synxenidae is quite distinct from that of the remaining two families in the order Polyxenida , and led to erection of the two superfamilies Synxenoidea and Polyxenoidea ( Silvestri 1948) . It is therefore surprising that the two clades were only recoverable in the ML analysis of the molecular data. Regier et al. (2005) also recovered the two superfamilies with a likelihood analysis of three species, while their parsimony analysis showed the Lophoproctidae as the basal clade with Polyxenidae and Synxenidae grouped together.
