Diagnosis. Male. Body slender, from moderately ( Fig. 8D, E View FIGURE 8 ) to very shiny ( Fig. 8A View FIGURE 8 ), legs and antennae slender, long. Head with moderately coarse, sparse puncturation (puncture diameter subequal to interpuncture distance). Head ventrally with simple (not impressed) longitudinal furrow beyond prementum. Pronotum moderately convex. Lateral margins of pronotum evenly rounded, emarginated or rarely straight at basal quarter; anterior angles not protruding or rarely slightly protruding; base bisinuate, posterior angles rectangular, weakly protruding. Pronotum punctured by uniform fine and sparse round punctures. Prosternal process comparatively wide, rounded at apex. Elytra widest at middle, with lateral margins less rounded. Strial punctures moderate in size or large, densely spaced (35–40 punctures in one row), round, not impressed or slightly impressed. Interstriae with fine and sparse distinctly visible puncturation. Protibiae narrow, with deep and wide notches on inner side and protruding, weakly obtuse tooth before the indentation; protibia widest at level of tooth. Mesotibiae usually straight, sometimes weakly bent. Mesotarsomeres 1–4 not widened, tarsomere 2 with reduced hair brush on sole, very rarely mesotarsomere 3 also with very small reduced hair tuft.

Female. Body much more robust, protibiae weakly bent. Lateral margins of pronotum always widely emarginated in basal quarter; posterior angles acute, stronger protruding.

Notes. Dendarus vagans Reitter, 1902 and D. vagabundus Reitter, 1904 were considered by Kaszab (1973) as junior synonyms of D. transcaspicus transcaspicus Brancsik, 1899 as a result of misidentification.

The holotype of D. vagabundus medvedevi Kaszab, 1973 (studied by the first author in HNHM but not photographed) from Saramsakli (now Turkmenistan, Central Kopetdag, Sarymsakly spring, 38°29ʹ11ʺ N, 57°6ʹ49ʺ E) is only a deviant wrinkled specimen of D. vagabundus vagabundus with a less protruding tooth on the inner side. So, we propose the following synonymy: Dendarus vagabundus vagabundus Reitter, 1904 = D. transcaspicus medvedevi Kaszab, 1973 , syn. n. Dendarus vagabundus afghanicus Kaszab, 1973 from Central Afghanistan (Sang Mazar, Pur Chaman) is a clear subspecies, which differs from the nominotypical one by the deeper notch and right tooth on inner side of male protibia and denser and coarser puncturation of the pronotum.

Distribution. Iran (recorded for Iran by Medvedev & Nepesova (1990 a) under the name D. armeniacus ), Turkmenistan.
