Cromerus invarius (Walker 1873) View in CoL
Material examined: 2M + 1F, New Guinea, Papua, Fly R, Kiunga, 35m, VIII.1969, J. Sedlacek coll., BPBM.
Comments: Known only from the type specimen described from New Guinea. This is the only species of Cromerus Distant inhabiting New Guinea. The other seven Cromerus are found in SE China, Indonesia (Java), Philippine Islands (Samar and Mindanao), and Australia (Queensland). Cromerus excelans Drake (1953) is very close to C. invarius , but may be slightly smaller, with occipital spines shorter. All other characters are similar. As noted by Péricart (2000), the genus is in need of a major revision, as all the species described are very similar.
