Notes

Extremely large-bodied clams with four to five distinct folds in its shell. The mantle is always visible, even when the shell is closed and covered in hundreds of small spots. Shell colour can vary and is often determined by organisms growing on it (such as algae or CCA), the mantle is normally of a dark brown to bluish-purple colour (Fig. 150 View Figure 150 ).
