Bahia: Caxoiram, Villa Jacobina, et versus Malhada, April–September 1819, C.F.P. von Martius s.n. (holotype M-0233241!; isotypes G-00434356!, L-0034621!). Cnidoscolus pubescens Pohl, Pl. Bras. Icon. Descr. View in CoL 1: 62 (1827).— Jatropha obtusifolia var. pubescens (Pohl) Müll.Arg. in DC., Prodr.

15(2): 1097 (1866). Type :— BRAZIL. Bahia: without locality, without date, C. F. P. von Martius Obs. 2230 (holotype M-0233240!;

Distribution:— Brazil.

Notes:— Cnidoscolus obtusifolius and C. pubescens were proposed in the same publication and thus have priority from the same time. Müller (1866) was the first person to consider these two names as belonging to the same species and relegated the latter to a variety of the Jatropha obtusifolia . Later authors (e.g., Cordeiro & Secco 2015, Fernández Casas 2001c, Souza et al. 2016) have treated Cnidoscolus pubescens as the accepted name, but this is incorrect.
