Type:— PARAGUAY. Concepción: without locality, September 1901 –1902, É. Hassler 7396a (lectotype G-00307038!, here designated). Described on the basis of two syntypes Hassler 7090 and 7396a. Pax segregated Hassler 7090 as the type of his species Jatropha hassleriana (= C. hasslerianus ), while maintaining Hassler 7396a with his concept of Jatropha albomaculata var. nana .

Cnidoscolus tetracyclus Pax & K.Hoffm., Pflanzenr. IV. 147. XVII (Heft 85): 193 (1924). Type:— PARAGUAY. Concepción: Rio Apa, Colonie Risso, 20 November 1893, G. Malme 1084c (holotype S-R-10683!, isotype S-05-2839!).

Distribution:— Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay.

Notes:— When Pax described Jatropha albomaculata he recognized three varieties: var. subcuneata , var. stimulosissima , and var. nana . Collectively these encompassed the entire circumsciption of the species. He did not mention an autonym. We here chose var. subcuneata to represent the typical variety of this species. The holotype in B (Field Museum Berlin Negative # 5378!) was probably destroyed; here we designated the NY specimen as lectotype.
