Regni Veg. 28: 228 (1930). Type:— CUBA. Pinar del Río: Viñales , Sierra del Sitio Santo Tomás on top of the dominating mountain, 700 m, 10 November 1923, E. L. Ekman 18026 (lectotype S-08-1440 !, designated here; isolectotypes G-00434357!, K-000254138!, NY-00083454 !, S-08-1439 !, S-R-10672!, US-00731071 !) .

Cnidoscolus bellator var. bullatus León, Mem. Soc. Cub. Hist. Nat. “Felipe Poey” 15: 237 (1941). Type:— CUBA. Pinar del Río: Caiguanabo, Mogote de Fleita, without date, Hno. León 19693 (not traced). We have been unable to find this collection. It may have been transfered to HAC, after incorportation of LS into this herbarium).

Distribution:— Cuba (regional endemic). Notes:— Of the three type specimens at S, we have chosen as lectotype the one that has Urban’s annotation label.
