Material examined. Holotype: ♀, SOLOMON ISLANDS, Central Malaita Island: March – April 1930, Ac.30985, Whitney So Sea Expedition ( AMNH).

Diagnosis. Mallinella axillocrina sp. nov. is easily distinguished from other members of the zebra -group by the presence of large gland pores on the dorsal side of spermathecae and by two large apical coils.

Etymology. The specific epithet is a combination of axilla (Latin: armpit; angle) and ĸplvω (Greek: to secrete, to exude). The specific epithet refers to easily recognized secretory gland pores in dorsal view.

Description. Female (holotype). Total length 7.02; prosoma 3.50 long, 2.36 wide. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.26, ALE 0.16, PME 0.18, PLE 0.18, AME–AME 0.10, AME–ALE 0.16, PME–PME 0.12, PME–PLE 0.40; MOQ: 0.60 long, 0.50 anterior width, 0.49 posterior width.Leg measurements: I 9.64 (2.63, 3.50, 2.00, 1.48), II 8.24 (2.20, 3.00, 1.75, 1.32), III 6.98 (2.02, 1.98, 21.76, 1.24), IV 10.68 (2.80, 3.34, 3.00, 1.96).

Coloration. Carapace brown, opisthosoma brown, without distinctive pattern.

Genitalia ( Figs 436 View FIGURES 434–439. 434 , 468–470 View FIGURES 468–473. 468–470 ). Epigynal plate subrectangular, without distinct incision on both margins. Lateral borders slightly arched. Spermathecae composed of more or less cylindrical proximal part and conical distal part in anterior view, internally with 2 large coils, gland pores situated dorsally on slant edge.

Male. Unknown.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality on the Solomon Islands.
