Type Locality: USA, erroneously given as "Columbia River", but restricted to Idaho, Canyon Co., near Nampa, by Bailey (1915).
Synonyms: Thomomys (Megascapheus) townsendii subsp. atrogriseus Bailey 1914 ; Thomomys (Megascapheus) townsendii subsp. owyhensis Davis 1937 ; Thomomys (Megascapheus) townsendii subsp. similis Davis 1937 .
