TYPE SPECIES: Musca aquatica Geoffroy, 1785 , by monotypy .
CURRENT STATUS: nomen oblitum; senior (but invalid) synonym of Dorycera Meigen, 1830 , n. syn.
FAMILY: ULIDIIDAE .
REMARKS: There are no characters given for the genus-group, however, the only included species ( aquatica ) is here determined by the placement of the genus in the list with related genera to be the same as Musca aquatica Geoffroy, 1785 , makes the genus-group name available by including a specific name that can be unambiguously assigned to a nominal species-group taxon (ICZN Code Art. 12.2.5). Musca aquatica Geoffroy, 1785 is currently treated within the ulidiid genus Dorycera Meigen, 1830 [teste Evenhuis & Pape (2019: 62)]. Since the name Driope Swinderen, 1822 has not been used since 1899 and Dorycera Meigen, 1830 has been used as a taxonomically valid name in at least 25 works by 10 authors within the last 50 years (see Appendix I for a list of those works), Driope Swinderen, 1822 is here declared a nomen obitum and Dorycera Meigen, 1824 is declared a nomen protectum.
