Phakopsora meibomiae (Arthur) Arthur

on Desmodium sp. Panama, Cocle Province, Aguadulce, 8°13.227'N, 80°36.558'W, 24 Nov. 2004, leg. J.R. Hernandez 2004- 084, II (BPI 864113). On P multiflorus var. coccineus (L.) DC. Panama, Chiriqui Province, Dominical, 8°40.455'N, 82°48.013'W, 25 Nov. 2004, leg. J.R. Hernandez 2004-114, II (BPI 864114). Identification was confirmed using realtime PCR (Frederick et al. 2002).

P. meibomiae was reported from Mexico to Argentina and the Caribbean; in addition, there are several unconfirmed reports from out of the Americas (Farr et al. 2004). This is the first report of P. meibomiae from Panama.
