Distribution: Australia: Cape York Peninsula (Queensland) to SE South Australia and SW Western Australia, Tasmania, islands of the Bass Straits.
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable as P. occidentalis , Lower Risk (lc) as P. peregrinus . Common.
Discussion: Probably a species complex rather than a single species (see Flannery, 1994 a).
