Type Locality: Australia, New South Wales.
Vernacular Names: Koala.
Synonyms: Phascolarctos adustus Thomas 1923 ; Phascolarctos flindersii Lesson 1827 ; Phascolarctos fuscus Desmarest 1820 ; Phascolarctos koala Gray 1827 ; Phascolarctos subiens (Burnett 1830) ; Phascolarctos victor Troughton 1935 .
Distribution: Australia: SE Queensland, E New South Wales, SE South Australia, and Victoria. Introduced on Kangaroo Isl, South Australia and at Yanchep, Western Australia.
Conservation: U.S. ESA – Threatened; IUCN – Lower Risk (nt). Vulnerable.
Discussion: Subspecies are uncertain.
