= Haploprotopus Verhoeff, 1899: 195 View in CoL . Type species: Julus ganglbaueri, Verhoeff, 1898 View in CoL , by monotypy. = Smeringolophus Attems, 1959: 385 . Type species: Typhloiulus albanicus Attems, 1929 View in CoL , by original designation. = Xestotyphloiulus Verhoeff, 1899: 195 . Type species: Iulus View in CoL (recte: Julus View in CoL ) psilonotus Latzel, 1884 View in CoL , by monotypy. Comment. The gonopods of the only species of the subgenus Haploprotopus , T. ganglbaueri View in CoL , show a conformation typical of Typhloiulus View in CoL s. str. Verhoeff (1899) had stated the unmodified leg-pair he observed in 3 topotypic males as the only definitive character of the subgenus, but Strasser (1962) found it unsatisfactory. As concerns Smeringolophus and Xestotyphloiulus , their only species, T. albanicus View in CoL and T. psilonotus View in CoL , respectively, are undoubtful representatives of Typhloiulus View in CoL s. str. Thus, these two former subgenera are here considered as junior subjective synonyms of the latter.
