Subgenera of Typhloiulus View in CoL

Of the numerous subgenera of Typhloiulus only five ( Typhloiulus s. s., Attemsotyphlus , Inversotyphlus , Spelaeoblaniulus and Stygiiulus ) are presently recognized as valid. However, this generic subdivision is surely very preliminary, with only the nominal subgenus being well-defined and with a mostly unquestionable species composition. Members of Stygiiulus , although apparently constituting a natural group, need to be separately revised and their supposed relation to species of Trogloiulus (= Mesoporoiulus ?) clarified. Spelaeoblaniulus is arguably the most aberrant of all subgenera, considering the outstanding shape of the posterior gonopods, and eventual future studies are likely to result in its elevation to a full genus. The usage of the remaining two subgenera— Attemsotyphlus and Inversotyphlus —seems premature at this stage, as both are rather weakly defined and, apart from their type species, are currently lacking any other obvious members.
