Bannatettix barbifemura View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figure 2 View Figure 2 )
Measurements. Length of body ♂ 8.0– 8.5 mm; length of pronotum ♂ 10.0– 10.5 mm; length of hind femur ♂ 5.0– 5.5 mm.
Body brown. Wings dark brown. Hind femur brown. Hind tibia brown.
Male. Small, slender. Head projecting above upper level of pronotum ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ). Anterior margin of vertex straight ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ), not protruding beyond eyes, median carina conspicuous, width of vertex narrower than width of an eye (1: 1.4) ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ). In profile, vertex before eyes not visible, frontal ridge slightly arcuately protruding between antennae ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ), width of longitudinal furrow narrower than width of first antennal segment. Antenna filiform, 14-segmented, length of a segment in middle about six to seven times longer than its width, inserted below lower margins of eyes ( Figure 2C View Figure 2 ). Eyes globose, projecting above upper level of pronotum, lateral ocelli placed in lower third of eyes ( Figure 2C View Figure 2 ). Disc of pronotum coarse, with numerous tubercles between shoulders. Anterior margin of pronotum straight, middle keel of pronotum complete ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ). Dorsal margin of pronotum undulated before shoulders and flat behind shoulders in profile ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ). Lateral keels of prozona parallel, humeral angle arched ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ), without abbreviated carinae between shoulders ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ). Hind process of pronotum narrow, long cone-shaped, reaching middle of hind tibia ( Figure 2A,B View Figure 2 ). Posterior margins of lateral lobes of pronotum with two concavities, posterior angles of lateral lobes of pronotum turned downwards, apex of angles rounded ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ). Tegmina long, ovate, apex rounded ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ). Hind wings developed, extending beyond top of pronotal process for about 1.5 mm ( Figure 2A,B View Figure 2 ). Fore and middle legs with numerous long hair ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ); dorsal and ventral margins of fore femur and middle femur straight ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ), width of middle femur equal to width of tegmina, middle tibia not constricted at apex ( Figure 2D View Figure 2 ). Length of hind femur three times its width, mid-keel of dorsal and ventral side of hind femur dentate and with one large tooth before antegenicular ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ), antegenicular denticles right angle and genicular denticles acute. Outer side of hind tibia with six or seven spines, inner side with four or five spines. Length of first segment of hind tarsus longer than third, third pulvillus longer than first and second, apices of all pulvilli sharp. Subgenital plate brief cone-shaped, apex sharp ( Figure 2E View Figure 2 ).
Female. Unknown.
Holotype. ♂, P. R. CHINA: Fujian: Yongding (Mianhuatan), 24.8 ◦ N, 116.7 ◦ E, 400 m altitude, 14 August 2009, collected by Wei-An DENG.. GoogleMaps
Paratypes. One ♂, data same as for the holotype GoogleMaps ; 2♂, P. R. CHINA: Fujian: Nanjing (Hexi), 24.5 ◦ N, 117.3 ◦ E, 400 m altitude, 15 August 2009, collected by Wei-An DENG. Material is deposited in the Institute of Zoology , Shaanxi Normal University , Xi’an , China GoogleMaps .
Etymology. The new species’ name is derived from the Latin barbi and femura, meaning fore and middle legs with numerous long hair.
Distribution. P. R. China: Fujian.
Remarks. This species can be easily distinguished from other species of the genus by fore and middle legs with numerous long hair, mid-keel of dorsal and ventral side of hind femur dentate and with one large tooth before antegenicular. It is only similar to Bannatettix serrifemoralis Zheng and Shi, 2009 , from which it differs in: width of vertex narrower than width of an eye (1: 1.4); lateral keels of prozona parallel; humeral angle arcly rounded; fore and middle legs with numerous long hair; wings dark brown; hind femur brown; hind tibia brown.
