R e c o g n i t i o n:Themaleof Podalonia erythropus has a propodeal enclosure with erect setae, the legs, the free margin of the clypeus, the petiole (partly) and the gaster basally are reddish-brown. The gastral apex has no metallic shine. The male of P. erythropus is similar to P. canescens but differs in having reddish-brown legs ( P. canescens has black legs). The male of P. tydei differs from P. erythropus in having a clypeal free margin slightly arcuate laterally and black legs ( P. erythropus has a clypeal free margin broadly produced and reddish-brown legs).
D e s c r i p t i o n 3: 17 mm. Black, with the following reddish-brown: mandible (except apex), free margin of clypeus, scape and pedicel ventrally, tegula, wing veins, legs (except coxa), petiole ventrally and gastral segments I-IV (dorsally darkened). Clypeus, frons, pronotal lobe posteriorly and mesopleuron (finely) covered with appressed silvery setae; Clypeus broadly produced as in P. canescens (see DOLLFUSS 2010b: 1287, fig. 122), pronotal collar punctate, scutum densely coarsely punctate and scutellum longitudinally striate. Mesopleuron and mesopleural venter densely, coarsely punctate.Propodeal enclosure punctato-rugose and all covered with erect setae. Propodeum laterally coarsely punctato-rugose. Episternal sulcus indistinctly developed, arolia large and claws without basal tooth. Length of petiole = hindtarsomere I+II; OOD: POD = 20: 15. Genitalia as in P. canescens .
