Diagnosis. The forewing length is 17.5– 19 mm in males and 18–21 mm in females. The species is represented by two colour forms. The red lined one is externally very similar to C. phaedra but is distinguished by its wider forewing red markings. The male genital capsule of C. moupinensis is distinguished from that of C. phaedra by the somewhat more elongate uncus and the U-shaped saccus (it is more rectangular in C. phaedra ). The vesica of C. moupinensis differs clearly from that of C. phaedra by the shorter dorsal diverticulum bearing a shorter cluster of smaller cornuti, the shorter ventral diverticulum bearing an entire cluster of cornuti (in C. phaedra , it bears two separated elongate clusters of cornuti parallel to each other), the smaller medial granulated diverticulum, and the presence of the additional medial diverticulum bearing a cluster of spine-like cornuti which is absent in C. phaedra . The female genitalia of C. moupinensis are distinguished from those of C. phaedra by the markedly shorter sclerotized area in the basal section of the appendix bursae, the narrowed distal section of the appendix bursae (it is dilated in C. phaedra ), and the much shorter gelatinous area of the posterior section of the corpus bursae. Additionally, the signum bursae of C. moupinensis is larger than that of C. phaedra .

Distribution. The species is known from Sichuan, Shaanxi and Hubei Provinces of China.
