Notes:—This apparently undescribed species is similar to A. granulatae from which it differs mainly by the dimensions of ascospores—14.4–(16)–17.6 × 6–(6.8)–8 μm vs. 8–(10)–12 × 3–(3.6)–4.5 μm in A. granulatae ( Table 2).

The specimens corresponding to Abrothallus sp. 1 and sp. 2 are relatively old (collected in 1987 and 1959 respectively) for DNA extraction, which prevented their inclusion in the phylogenetic analyses. However, their treatement as distinct taxa is supported by the analogous situation for A. secedens and A. canariensis , which differ primarily by ascospore dimensions and form close but distinct lineages based on molecular data ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ; Table 2).

Material examined: — KENYA. Central, Mt. Kenya, eastern slope, Urumardi, elev. 3080 m (00º10’S 37º24’E), on Pseudocyphellaria , 1959, M.J. Coe, det as A. cf. haleii R. Santesson ( UPS (F-156138)450263).
