Signoretia sumatrana Schmidt 1911: 298 View in CoL ; Li & Wang 1996: 124 –125, figs 92: 1–4.
Remarks. No specimens of this species was examined, only photographs of the type ( MIZP, Figs 43–45 View FIGURES 31 – 46 , 64 View FIGURES 47 – 65 ). Schmidt (1911) described the species based on an unspecified number of male specimens collected from “ Sumatra: Soekaranda ” during “ January 1894 ” by “ Dr H. Dohrn”.
This species has chocolate brown coloration as in S. greeni but lacks the pale ochraceous median fascia on head and pronotum found in S. greeni . It also has apical cells of forewing differently formed compared to that in S. greeni . The male type has been dissected; however, it was not possible to locate the slide containing the male genitalia (Dr A. Stroinski, personal communication). Li & Wang (1996) recorded the species from Fujian ( China) and Taiwan, and also illustrated the male genitalia; the pygofer illustrated by Li & Wang (1996) is similar to that in the case S. rubra sp. nov. in that both have the forked ventral process. This species resembles species of Phlogisiini. Not only is the color similar but the head in profile is more rounded than most other species of Signoretiini.
