E x a m i n e d m a t e r i a l Holotype 3: China, Hunan, Wulingyuashan , 40 km NW Zhanzhajie, 800 m, leg.? 22-25.VI.1997 (cH); paratypes: same data, 1♀ (cH), 13 (cB).

D e s c r i p t i o n: Length of body 9 mm; from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra: 5 mm. Brown light, with head and pronotum a little reddish. Elytra, 6° abdominal visible segment, genital segment, and legs yellowish; antennae brown. Elytra slightly infuscate on the anterior half. Head avoidal, anteriorly narrow, with strictly rounded posterior angles. Eyes medium-sized, protruding. Surface of head with more or less polygonal micro-reticulation and deep, rounded, dense puncturation, apart a narrow median strip. Pronotum as long as head, a little narrower, slightly dilated anteriorly, with very largely rounded anterior angles and a little sinuate sides. Surface shiny, with dorsal series of 7-8 wide and superficial punctures and lateral series of 4-5 punctures. Elytra large, very longer and wider than pronotum, posteriad dilated, with marked humeral angles. Surface with more or less polygonal micro-reticulation and fine, dense and superficial puncturation, arranged in numerous series. Abdomen with transverse microstriation and fine and sparse puncturation, arranged in few series.

Tergite and sternite of the male genital segment as in figs. 1-2. Aedeagus (fig. 3) 1, 35 mm long, ovoidal, with characteristic distal portion and short, narrow parameres; inner sac ribbon-like, folded some time on itself and covered by fine scales.

E t y m o l o g y: The specific epithet refers to Hunan.

G e o g r a p h i c a l d i s t r i b u t i o n The species is known until now from the type locality only.

N o t e: This is the first Megalinus cited for Hunan.
