Type species: Bryodema barabense ( Pallas, 1773) , by original designation.
Description. Body of medium size for tribe. Antennae 23–25-segmented. Vertical diameter of eyes in male 1.1- 1.25 times larger than the length of subocular furrow, in female almost equal to this furrow. Pronotum with short prozona; posterior margin of metazona triangular; median carina of the pronotum cut by two transverse furrows, low in both prozona and metazona. Mesosternal lobes transverse, in male 1.4–1.5 times, in female 1.7–1.8 times as wide as long; mesosternal interspace 1.1-1.2 times narrower than mesosternal lobe ( Figs. 5, 6 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ). Tegmina far surpassing the apex of hind femora, 3.1–4.1 times as long as wide; medial field of tegmen with straight intercalate vein provided by numerous small pegs; maximal width of cubital field 2.3–2.7 times wider than the width of medial field ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Hind wings reaching the apex of tegmina in rest position; anterior margin of wing distinctly S-shaped; even anal veins thickened in basal half; odd anal veins slender; 2A1 bifurcate, never anastamosed with 1A1 ( Fig. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Hind femora stout, 3.5–3.9 times as long as maximum wide; apex of femur dorsally smooth, non modified; the upper outer keel apically not widened nor covered by furrows; the lower lobe of hind knees with almost straight lower margin and broadly rounded apex ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 17 – 32 ). Dorsal side of hind tibiae with shallow transverse furrows near the base ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 17 – 32 ), with 8–10 outer and 8–13 inner almost straight teeth, and with numerous long setae between them. Both claws equal in length; arolium large, reaching apical 2/3 of claws ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 17 – 32 ). Male supra-anal plate triangular, as long as wide near the base ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ). Male cerci reaching the apex of supra-anal plate, elongated with rounded apex, 2.6–3.1 times as long as wide near the base ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ); in female cerci short conical, 1.8–1.9 times as long as wide near the base ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ). Female subgenital plate 1.4–2.0 times as long as wide, with triangular posterior margin ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ). Ovipositor short, upper margin of dorsal valves excised, lower margin of ventral valves with deep excision ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ). Male genitalia: epiphallus with narrow bridge; oval sclerites large; apodemes dorsally with pointed apex; flexure narrow; both ectophallic and endopallic membranes strongly sclerotized; valves of cingulum with blunt apex; apical valves of penis with pointed apex ( Figs. 11–15 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ).
Diagnosis. The differences of Angaracris from the other genera of Bryodemini are given in a key below.
Composition. Up to now 14 taxa (species, subspecies, varieties) was described, but all of them are considered here as synonyms of the type species of the genus.
