Lectotype (designated here): —Hort. Bot. Berol., from Panama, Chiriquí, Cordillera, Warszewicz s.n. (U-0039217!).
Nomenclatural notes:— The protologue does not contain a citation stating the name of the herbarium where the type of F. chiriquiana was deposited. Berg (2007b) cited the collection in Berlin ( B) as the place where the holotype is stored ; however, this collection was not found there. Furthermore, this cannot be considered a lectotypification because it was published after 2001 and the phrase “designated here” was not included ( Turland et al. 2018, Art. 7.11). Here, we have chosen Warszewicz s.n. (U-0039217) as the lectotype because it is the only known specimen and it matches with the description in the protologue .
Taxonomical notes:— The currently accepted name for this taxon is Ficus americana subsp. americana .
