Genus UROCTONUS Thorell View in CoL

The genus Uroctonus currently has three species, one of which, Uroctonus mordax Thorell , has two subspecies. The nominotypical form is widespread along the Coast Ranges and is quite common in collections. The other two species, U. franckei Williams and the troglobitic U. grahami Gertsch & Soleglad , are not only rare in collections but also apparently quite rare in nature. A thorough assessment of the genus is, therefore, hampered by a lack of available specimens.

Uroctonus View in CoL was transferred to the family Chactidae View in CoL by Soleglad & Fet (2003) and was subsequently returned to the Vaejovidae View in CoL by Prendini & Wheeler (2005).
