Distribution: Sri Lanka; Pakistan to Vietnam and S China; Peninsular Malaysia; Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Mentawai Isls ( Indonesia).

Conservation: IUCN / SSC Action Plan (1992) – Not Threatened. IUCN 2003 – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Subgenus Rousettus . Includes seminudus; see Sinha (1970). See Peterson et al. (1995) for a discussion of shortridgei. Kock et al. (2000 b) treated shortridgei as a distinct species without comment. Reviewed in part by Bates and Harrison (1997) and Kock et al. (2000 b). This name is sometimes spelled leschenaulti (e.g., Koopman, 1993, 1994), but I prefer the original spelling.
