Diagnosis. Forewing length is 10–13 mm (wingspan 21–26.5 mm) in males and 12–14 mm (wingspan 23–29.5) in females. The new species displays no differences in wing pattern from its closest relative M. obliquilinea , but can be recognized by its much shorter area of blackish scales on the tip of male abdomen. In the male genital capsule, M. konta sp. n. can be distinguished from M. obliquilinea and M. dentinebula by its more broadened valva with a more elongated and dilated distal section. In addition, the distal saccular process of the new species is less curved than that of M. obliquilinea . The vesica structures of the three species are very similar, but in M. konta sp. n. the lateral diverticulum is somewhat smaller than in M. obliquilinea and M. dentinebula , and the number of cornuti (2–3) is smaller than in M. dentinebula (5) and M. obliquilinea (3–4). Compared to those of M. obliquilinea , the female genitalia of the new species have shorter posterior sclerotised band, shorter and narrower left lateral sclerotised band, and smaller spines of the right lateral sclerotised band. Additionally, in M. konta sp. n. the anterior section of corpus bursae bears more robust spines than that of M. obliquilinea .

Distribution. North Thailand (Chiang Mai, Nan and Mae Hong Son Provinces), Central Laos (Bolikhamxai Province) and Vietnam (Hòa Bình, Vĩnh Phúc, Lào Cai and Lâm Đồng Provinces).

Etymology. In Greek, the word ‘κοντά’ means ‘close’. The specific epithet refers to its close relationship with M. obliquilinea .
