Type and type locality. The holotype is held at QM; type locality is Heron Island, Australia.
Material examined. 1 ♀ (2.4 mm), Tanjung Kusu Dua, Bitung, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, 01°27'31.7''N, 125°14'02.2''E, 17 July 2014, 10 m, rubble and dead coral head, coll. B. Hermanto and C. Sidabalok ( MZB Cru.Iso 090). GoogleMaps
Remarks. Metacirolana spinosa (Bruce, 1980a) is readily distinguished from other Metacirolana by the presence of small acute spines on the pereonites, pleonites and prominent robust setae on the margins of the pleotelson and uropods.
Distribution. Australia (Heron Island and Lizard Island) and North Sulawesi Indonesia.
