The genus Xanthonomus Bernhauer, 1926 View in CoL

The genus Xanthonomus Bernhauer, 1926 was originally described as the subgenus of the genus Phloeonomus Heer, 1839 with Ph. (Xanthonomus) toxopeanus Bernhauer, 1926 (Indionesia: Buru), fixed by the monotypy ( Bernhauer 1926). Steel (1995) raised this taxon to the generic status, redescribed it and X. toxopeanus , and described X. latus Steel, 1955 ( Malaysia: Gunong Tahan Padang). Additional two closely related species, shorter in the length of the body, are described below. Species of this genus are characterized by the small body, sometimes with paler elytra, distinctly transverse apical four antennomeres forming loose club, transverse pronotum with obtuse or widely rounded hind angles, short elytra, the absence of the distinct paratergites of the abdomen, and the narrow median lobe and parameres.
