Diagnosis (adult female). Within the Ascidae , Leioseius species can be distinguished by the epistome with two or three anterior extensions; podonotal and opisthonotal shields fused, usually with distinct lateral incisions at region of fusion; holotrichous dorsal idiosoma; with 2–12 pairs of r -R setae on unsclerotised cuticle; genua I–IV with 13 (rarely 12), 11, 8 (or 9) and 9 setae; tibiae I–IV with 13 (rarely 12), 10, 8 and 10 setae, All legs with pretarsi. Median section of pulvilli of legs II–IV rounded; paradactyli of these legs elongate and acuminate. A full morphological characterisation of this genus was given by Moraes et al. (2016).
