Representatives of this genus are associated with birds of the orders Psittaciformes, Accipitriformes, and Strigiformes ( Fain et al. 2000; Skoracki et al. 2010, 2016; Zmudzinski et al. 2015). The genus Megasyringophilus currently includes eleven species; nine of them have been recorded from parrots, but the only one has been found on a cacatuid host.
