Hooker described D. minor its small flowers (perianth 8–13 mm), the outer lobes as long as tube from rocky places in Malwan. Dalzell’s herbarium material presented to Hooker from Hewra Plain features characters such as, 3–12 flowers per scape, bract as long as or shorter than the pedicel, pistil with conspicuous stipe. Cooke (1907) describes the species based on the same herbarium specimen (Dalzell K000802722!). Deb & Dasgupta (1977) compared D. minor to Dipcadi erythraeum and D. serotinum .
Dipcadi minor was cited by Lakshminarasimhan et al. (1996) from a sandy plateau of Ratnagiri. Specimens labelled D. minor in BLAT!, SUK!, and BSI! collected from Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu showed variable characters of D. montanum . Based on our observations and critical comparison this species is conspecific with D. montanum .
