Heterocoelia Dahlbom

Heterocoelia Dahlbom, 1854 . Hym. Eur. Borealia, 2:9, 21. Type species: Cleptes nigriventris Dahlbom.

Among the genera of the subfamily Mesitiinae , this genus is chiefly characterized by the following combination of characteristics: (1) head and pronotum densely, coarsely or deeply punctate; (2) anterolateral corner of clypeus rectangular; (3) pronotum with a longitudinal furrow; (4) scutum rarely with longitudinal furrow; (5) lateral spine of propodeal disc stumpy or moderately long; (6) upper margin of lateral surface of propodeum with a parallel strong carina reaching vertical edge of disc but not to lateral spines ( Móczár, 1984).
