Myotis riparius Handley 1960 View in CoL , Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus., 112: 466-468.
Type Locality: Panama, Darien, Río Puero, Tacarcuna Village.
Vernacular Names: Riparian Myotis.
Distribution: Honduras south to Uruguay, E Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia; Trinidad.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Originally described as a subspecies of simus . Reviewed in part by López-González et al. (2001). LaVal (1973 a) suggested that guaycuru may be the oldest name for this species, but López-González et al. (2001) have shown guaycuru to be a junior synonym of simus . Apparently closely related to ruber ; see Ruedi and Mayer (2001).
