Type species. Vitisma rasnitsyni Vršanský, 1999 ; Baissa , Siberia, Russian Federation .

Diagnosis (improved according to Vršanský &Ansorge 2001). Small cockroaches with sclerotized forewings; venation simplified with simple Sc (with possible reticulations ending in wing margin); R not differentiated; M more or less straight; CuA branched; A simple and straight. Sometimes a distinct pale colour spot is present. Hindwing venation similar to that of Blattulidae with oblique and distinct pterostigma. Pronotum typically shield-like and convex, with transverse margins.
Stratigraphic range. Hauterivian-Cenomanian.
Geographic range. Laurasia ( Spain, Russia, Mongolia, Japan?) and partly Gondwanan element of Myanmar.
