Material. New Caledonia: 1 specimen (MNHN-IU-2007-4742), station DW2068, 25°20’S 168°57’E, 26 X 2003, depth 680–980 m, Ride de Norfolk, Banc Porthos. Lozonet, Samedi & Richer-IRD coll.
Remarks. Cilunculus is a surprisingly diverse genus in the Melanesian islands, with ten of the thirty known species recorded from this region, of which seven are currently endemic. Cilunculus scaurus has only been recorded twice before, from New Caledonia (type-locality), at depths between 750 and 1000 m ( Stock, 1997; Bamber, 2004a).
