Distribution ( Fig. 28 View Figure 28 ): BRAZIL. Espírito Santo and Bahia. WWF Ecoregions: NT0103 and NT0104, respectively, Bahia coastal forests and Bahia interior forests.

Type species: Heteropachylus spiniger Roewer, 1913 , by monotypy.

Diagnosis: Three or four mesotergal areas; mesotergal area III with variable armature. Median armature of free tergite II with length comparable to the length of the tergite ( Figs 15A View Figure 15 , 17A View Figure 17 , 19A View Figure 19 , 21A View Figure 21 , 23A View Figure 23 ). Calcaneus I about half the size of the metatarsus and lighter than the astragalus. Femur IV ( Figs 15 View Figure 15 , 18 View Figure 18 , 20 View Figure 20 , 22 View Figure 22 , 24 View Figure 24 ) distinctly curved in dorsal view, with two curvatures (‘S-shaped’) in lateral view; bearing dorsobasal apophysis and row of tubercles on the prolateral margin, rounded at the distal half, larger at the medial portion of the row. Male genitalia ( Fig. 25 View Figure 25 ). Dorsal digitiform process in glans mostly absent (except in H. crassicalcanei ).
