Type material. Holotype male, labelled: “ Iran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Lordegan, Sateh Cave; 7.v.2016; leg. M.S. Tahami, H. Darvishniya, Y. Bakhshi ”/ Laemostenus zagrosensis sp. nov. Muilwijk, Tahami & Lohaj 2016 (red label Holotype) . Paratypes: four males and one female, the same data as holotype”/ Laemostenus zagrosensis sp. nov. Muilwijk, Tahami & Lohaj 2016 (red label Paratype) . Holotype and three paratypes deposited in ZM– CBSU, two paratypes in cMU.

Diagnosis. A medium sized brachypterous Laemostenus sg. Antisphodrus species of the zagrosensis speciesgroup. Colour reddish-brown, pronotum shiny. Head and pronotum with very fine, elytra with distinct microsculpture ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11 – 13 ).

Description. BL 14.2–15.8 (holotype) mm. Head narrow, wider than long (HL/HW: 0.9), with two pairs of supraorbital setae; frontal furrows short but distinct, eyes reduced, very slightly convex (0.5 mm), shorter than temples (0.8 mm). Clypeus with two long setae; labrum with six setae. Antennae reaching anterior fourth of elytral length, antennomere 3 without accessory setae except a few apical ones, longer than antennomeres 1+2; antennomeres 4–11 pubescent.

Pronotum elongate, slightly sinuate before hind angles; as wide as head and as long as wide (PL/PW: 1.0). Basal impressions shallow, with few punctures. Anterior angles slightly protruding and sharp, posterior angles almost rectangular, obtuse. Lateral margins finely punctate, with two pairs of setae present in lateral furrow, pair of baso-lateral setae situated near posterior angles, pair of antero-lateral setae situated in anterior third of pronotal length.

Elytra ovate elongate (EL/EW: 1.7), with maximum width in posterior third; almost flat, disc not depressed medially; base slightly wider than pronotal base. Humeri moderately rounded, with a reduced tooth. Striae fine, with fine punctures, intervals flat. Scutellar striae present; scutellar setiferous punctures situated in stria 1. Umbilicate series consists of 18–19 irregularly situated setiferous punctures; 2–3 setae at apex of stria 7.

Mesosternum unarmed, without teeth before mesocoxae. Abdominal sternites brown, shiny, with fine superficial wrinkles and distinct microsculpture, each sternite with two setae.

Legs elongate, slender. Protibiae with some fine hairs at apex of internal anterior sides. Mesotibiae and metatibiae with dense pubescence, limited to apical fourth. Tarsi dorsally with dense decumbent pubescence; claws smooth. Male protarsi slightly dilated.

Aedeagus ( Figs. 14, 17 View FIGURES 14 – 19 ): median lobe short (2.10 mm); almost straight in lateral view: basal bulb well developed, apex short and narrow in lateral view, widely rounded in dorsal view.

Ovipositor: as on Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20 – 21 .

Differential diagnosis. See identification key.

Distribution and habitat. So far known only from the twilight zone of the type locality, Sateh cave, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.
