Type species. Eupalaestrus pugilator Pocock, 1901

Diagnosis (emended from Bertani 2001). Eupalaestrus males differ from those of all other theraphosine genera by the presence of a denticulate row on the subapical area of the male palpal bulb embolus in conjunction with the lack of stridulatory setae on the palpus trochanter. Females differ from those of all other theraphosines, except Proshapalopus amazonicus and Vitalius lucasae , by having the tibia IV thickened, in conjunction with scopula on the retrolateral face of femur IV and the absence of stridulatory setae on the retrolateral face of the trochanter of the palpus. They differ from P. amazonicus and V. lucasae by the presence of urticating setae III (most species) or by the presence of stiff setae on metatarsus IV ( E. spinosissimus ).

Species included. Eupalaestrus campestratus , Eupalaestrus crassimetatarsis sp. nov., Eupalaestrus larae , Eupalaestrus roccoi sp. nov., Eupalaestrus spinosissimus and Eupalaestrus weijenberghi .
