Derivatio nominis: Campina refers to the area where the fossil was found: Campina Verde County; suchus from the Greek Suchos that refers to the Egyptian crocodile-headed god Sebek.
Diagnosis: As for the type and only known species.
Type species: Campinasuchus dinizi gen. et sp. nov.
