Diagnosis. Forewing elongatenarrow, often with a dorsal blotch, R 4 and R 5 connate; hindwing with R S and M 1 stalked to about middle, M 3 and CuA 1 closely approximated at base. Male genitalia with valva long; basal cavity large; cucullus small, bearing a terminal pollex; uncus vestigial or absent; sacculus with indistinct or atrophied angle, with variably developed band of long hairs; socii not fused. Female genitalia usually with papilla analis long and narrow; sterigma sclerotized; colliculum present or absent, usually a ring of sclerotization, if present; signa horn or thornshaped.
The genus Semnostola is similar to Enarmonia Hübner and Pseudophiaris Obraztsov ; all three share a terminal pollex of the valva. Semnostola can be distinguished from Enarmonia by the absence of an uncus, and from Pseudophiaris by its setose socius, the tegumen not concave medially on posterior margin, and its horn or thornshaped signa.
Semnostola is distributed in China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Burma, and Russia (Far East).
