Franklinothrips rarosae Reyes, 1994: 129 View in CoL

Known only from two males and one female, the holotype of this species is a male whose description is thus not comparable to the other species in this genus. It was not possible to borrow the female paratype for study, but Dr Cecilia Reyes has informed the authors that this female has the tenth abdominal segment paler than the preceding segments, and that antennal segment IV is yellow with the apical brown area a little longer than wide. This species is thus presumably intermediate between F. m e g a l o p s and F. variegatus , and these three appear to be part of a cline across the Old World tropics from Africa to Australia.
