Macrosaldula variabilis (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1835)
Salda riparia: Hahn (1834: 82, non Fallén, 1826 (misidentification)); Salda variabilis Herrich Schaeffer, 1835: 61 (new name for S. riparia sensu Hahn (1826)) ; Salda riparia: Fieber (1859: 239, non Fallén, 1826); Acanthia nigricornis Reuter, 1875: 566 ; Salda fenestrate Jakovlev, 1879: 152 ; Acanthia variabilis var. connectens Horváth, 1888: 179 ; Acanthia variabilis var. mendica Reuter, 1900: 159 .
Distribution in Iran. Mazandaran, Tehran (Wagner 1961), Iran (no locality cited) (Péricart 1990; Linnavuori & Hosseini 2000).
General distribution. Mediterranean basin, Near East, Caucasus, Central Asia (Lindskog 1995). Comments. Pilose populations from Romania, Turkey, and the Near East were distinguished as M. variabilis connectens Horváth, 1888 , but this character represents no more than a variation as occurs in many other groups.
