Prodorsal shield 40 (39–41), 43 (41–44) wide; prodorsal shield with frontal lobe; median line present on basal 1/3 of shield, median and admedian lines connected, submedian lines incomplete. Dorsal tubercles on rear shield margin, 25 (24–25) apart, scapular setae (sc) 10 (8–11) projecting posteriorly. Coxae: coxal plates with dashes; anterolateral setae on coxisternum I (1b) 7 (6–7), proximal setae on coxisternum I (1a) 15 (13–16), proximal setae on coxisternum II (2a) 30 (28–34). Sternal line present. Legs with usual series of setae. Legs I 29 (27–31), femur 8 (7–8), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 10 (9–11); genu 4 (4–5), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 20 (18–21); tibia 8 (7–8), paraxial tibial setae (l’) 6 (5–6), setae located 1/3 from dorsal base; tarsus 6 (5–6); tarsal empodium simple, 7rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Legs II 25 (23–27), femur 8 (7–8), basiventral femoral setae (bv) 7 (6–9); genu 4 (3–4), antaxial genual setae (l’’) 7 (7–8); tibia 5 (4–5); tarsus 5 (4–5); tarsal empodium simple, 7 rayed, tarsal solenidion tapered. Opisthosoma: dorsal opisthosoma with 26 (25–28) annuli, smooth, ventrally with 75 (73–77) annuli, with round microtubercles. Setae c2 10 (8–11) on ventral annulus 11; setae d 25 (23–28) on ventral annulus 23; setae e 12 (11–12) on ventral annulus 44; setae f 13 (11–14) on 5th ventral annulus from rear. Setae h1 4. Female genitalia 13 (12–13), 18 (17–18) wide, coverflap with 10 to 14 longitudinal ridges, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 20 (19–23).
MALE: (n = 4) 165 (163–166), 45 (44–45) wide; genitalia 4 (4–5), 15 (14–15) wide, proximal setae on coxisternum III (3a) 14 (13–15).
Type data
Holotype, female, from Sophora japonica L. (Leguminosea), Baiyun Mountain (33°39.86’N, 111°49.58’E), Song County, Henan Province, P. R. China, 18 July 2004, coll. X.F. Xue. Paratypes, 7 females and 4 males, with the same data as holotype.
Relation to host
Vagrant on leaf surface. No damage to the host was observed.
Etymology
Derived from the specific epithet of the type host plant, japonica .
Remarks
This species is similar to Anthocoptes shepherdiae Keifer, 1966 ( Keifer, 1966) , but can be differentiated by having smooth dorsal opisthosoma annuli (with elliptical microtubercles in A. shepherdiae ), tarsal empodium 7rayed (5rayed in A. shepherdiae ) and with different prodorsal shield design.
Distribution
China (Henan).
