Paramelomys steini (Rümmler 1935) View in CoL
[Rattus] steini Rümmler 1935 View in CoL , Z. Saugetierk., 10: 111.
Type Locality: E Prov. of Papua (= Irian Jaya), Sumuri Mtn, Weyland Mtns, 2000-2600 m.
Vernacular Names: Stein's Paramelomys.
Distribution: Recorded only from the type locality.
Discussion: Similar to P. rubex in fur coloration, but averages larger in most dimensions except for its shorter and broader hind feet ( Menzies, 1996). Paramelomys rubex occurs at lower elevations (originally reported as shawi from 1200 m) in the Weyland Mtns.
