Discussion: Van Gelder (1978) included Alopex , Atelocynus , Cerdocyon , Pseudalopex , Lycalopex , Dusicyon , and Vulpes as subgenera, however, this arrangement is not currently employed by most mammalogists ( Berta, 1987, 1988; Corbet, 1978; Corbet and Hill, 1980; Gromov and Baranova, 1981; Hall, 1981; McKenna and Bell, 1997; Wozencraft, 1989).
