Clubiona digitata Dankittipakul View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 1–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 11–13, 17 View FIGURES 11 – 19 )

Type material. Holotype: 3, THAILAND: Loei Province: Phu Ruea District, Phu Ruea National Park , forests surrounding park office, 870 m, 10 August 2006, leg. P. Dankittipakul ( MHNG). Paratypes: 1Ƥ, same data as holotype ( MHNG). THAILAND, Pathum Thani Province: 2Ƥ, mandarin orchard, 1988, leg. W. Vungsilabutr ( EZTH).

Diagnosis. Males of C. digitata sp. nov. can be distinguished from other members of the japonica -group by their spiniform embolus and the membranous apical part of the male palp ( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 11–13 View FIGURES 11 – 19 ). Females can be recognized by the digitiform spermathecal head ( Figs 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 17 View FIGURES 11 – 19 ).

Etymology. The specific epithet, digitata , meaning finger-like, is in reference to the shape of the female spermathecal head.

Description. Male (holotype): Total length 5.8; prosoma 2.6 long, 2.0 wide; opisthosoma 3.2 long, 1.8 wide. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.15, ALE 0.16, PME 0.12, PLE 0.13, AME–AME 0.10, AME–ALE 0.05, PME–PME 0.26, PME–PLE 0.18. Leg formula 4213. Leg measurements. Leg I 7.12 (2.2, 0.94, 1.92, 1.30, 0.76), leg II 7.38 (2.12, 1.00, 2.06, 1.42, 0.78), leg III 6.10 (1.82, 0.86, 1.40, 1.44, 0.58), leg IV 9.48 (2.54, 1.08, 2.42, 2.62, 0.82). Spination. Leg I: femur p–1, d–1–1–1, r–1; tibia v–2–2 –1–1; metatarsus v–2–1; leg II: femur p–1, d1–1–1, r–1; tibia p–1, v–2–2 –1; metatarsus v–2; leg III: femur p–1, d–1–1–1, r–1–1; patella r–1; tibia p–1–1, r–1–1, v–1–1 –1–1; metatarsus p1–1, d–1–1, r–1–1, v–2–1 –1–2; leg IV: femur p–1–1, d–1–1–1–1, r–1–1; patella r–1; tibia p–1–1, r–1–1, v–1–1 –1–1; metatarsus p–1–1–1, d–1–1, v–2–1 –1–1.

Coloration and pattern. Prosoma rather broad, strongly convex, in profile highest just in front of longitudinal fovea. Carapace yellowish brown, slightly darker on ocular region. Chelicerae brown, with dark brown frontal reticulum. Legs pale yellow. Opisthosoma elongate-ovoid, anterior margin with thick tuft of dorsal bristles. Dorsum pale, mottled with dark purple spots: anteriorly with vague median band on cardiac region, posteriorly with series of medially disconnected chevrons. Venter pale. Spinnerets brown, terminally with dark brown annulation.

Palp ( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 11–13 View FIGURES 11 – 19 ). RTA digitiform, apex blunt. Cymbium with deep anterior depression on dorsal side, covered with thick brush of erect bristles. Tegulum pyriform, relatively small, slightly excavated on apicoprolateral side to accommodate embolus, apical part of tegulum membranous. Sperm duct with baso-prolateral and apical loops. Embolus spiniform, originating meso-prolaterally, its apex blunt.

Female (paratype, MHNG): Total length 4.4; prosoma 2.8 long, 2.2 wide; opisthosoma 3.2 long, 1.6 wide. Eye sizes and interdistances: AME 0.16, ALE 0.18, PME 0.16, PLE 0.15, AME–AME 0.10, AME–ALE 0.06, PME–PME 0.26, PME–PLE 0.15. Leg formula 4213. Leg measurements. Leg I 5.92 (1.76, 0.88, 1.56, 1.14, 0.58), leg II 7.32 (2.12, 1.06, 2.08, 1.42, 0.64), leg III 5.78 (1.82, 0.78, 1.18, 1.38, 0.62), leg IV 8.60 (2.56, 0.68, 2.12, 2.40, 0.84). Spination. Leg I: femur p–1, d–1–1–1, r–1; tibia v–2–2 –1–1; metatarsus v–2–1; leg II: femur p–1–1, d1–1–1, r–1; tibia p–1, v–2–2 –1; metatarsus v–2; leg III: femur p–1–1, d–1–1, r–1–1; patella r–1–1; tibia p–1–1, r–1–1, v–2–1 –1–1; metatarsus p1–1, d–1–1, r–1–1, v–2–1 –1–2; leg IV: femur p–1–1, d–1–1–2, r–1–1; patella r–1–1; tibia p–1–1, r–1–1, v–2–1 –1–1; metatarsus p–1–1, d–1–1, v–2–1 –1–1.

Coloration and pattern. Prosoma in profile highest between PME and fovea. Carapace yellowish brown, ocular region dark brown, with purple, triangular reticulum running between PME and fovea. Chelicerae dark brown. Legs pale yellow except first pair of legs yellowish brown. Opisthosoma elongate-ovoid, sparsely clothed with black pubescence. Dorsum pale yellow, decorated with dark purple pattern: cardiac region with narrowed median band, flanked by disconnected lateral bands, posteriorly with series of medially disconnected chevrons. Venter pale, without pattern. Spinnerets dark brown.

Genitalia ( Figs 4–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 , 17 View FIGURES 11 – 19 ). Epigynal atrium trapezoidal, slightly depressed; anterior margin shorter than poorly delimited posterior margin, lateral margin heavily sclerotized, with deep groove. Copulatory orifices situated on posterior lateral corner of atrium. Internal genitalia with sclerotized duct system situated posterior to atrium. Insemination ducts short, descending posteriorly, completely obstructed in dorsal view by spermathecae. Spermathecae elongated, thin-walled, spermathecal bases making semi-circular curve then abruptly ascending anteriorly and extending laterally, terminally connected to digitiform spermathecal heads. Fertilization ducts lanceolated. Bursae membranous, more or less spherical.

Natural history. The holotype male and paratype female were collected by Malaise trap in semi-evergreen forests. Two paratype females were collected in a mandarin orchard.

Distribution. Northeastern and central Thailand.
