VIII. Aralia tertiaria
The fossil Aralia tertiaria Pilar (1883: 87) [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/names/ 0BAF9E13-7360-4179-B155- D39D8800005F] was described on the basis of leaf remains from the Miocene sediments of Balkan peninsula (Sused, Austria-Hungary, now Croatia). However, its junior homonym, the fossil Aralia tertiaria Dorofeev (1962 , 1963) was described later for another fossil on the basis of fruit endocarp remains from the Miocene sediments of Siberia. It was not validly published by Dorofeev (1962: 410, 1963: 245) [IFPNI: http://fossilplants.info/names/ 2EBAD0C0- 8720-47A8-B869-EC1BBAF22DFC; http://fossilplants.info/names/ B7C69A85-3351-4424-8945-DDF0FD43E8B9] in his two publications because he failed to designate the holotype (ICN, Art. 40.1, McNeill et al. 2012). It was only recently validated by Nikitin (2007: 119) [IFPNI:http://fossilplants.info/names/ 45A1A88C-1EB4-43D5-A2B8- D8682AC79E18] through holotype designation and providing English description. However, both Dorofeev and Nikitin overlooked an earlier name Aralia tertiaria Pilar (1883) . Therefore, Aralia tertiaria Dorofeev is a later illegitimate homonym and a new replacement name Aralia borealis Doweld , nom. nov. is proposed below:
