Remarks

The known Australian populations of Orcus lafertei possess two different patterns of coloration. The first group includes individuals with dorsal coloration dominated by purple and green with strong metallic reflection on elytra. In the second group the coloration is predominantly reddish, chestnut to dark purple with weaker metallic reflection, as in the lectotype of O. lafertei , examined in 2009 ( Łączyński and Tomaszewska 2009). Specimens examined during the present work belong to the more brightly coloured first group, which is also reported from the distant north-east coast of Australia.
