Genus Cimbrochrysa Schlüter, 1982 View in CoL
Cimbrochrysa Schlüter, 1982: 258 View in CoL ; Schlüter 1984: 7; Willmann & Brooks 1991: 126, 130; Carpenter 1992: 347; Willmann 1993: 242, 244; Peñalver et al. 1995: 486; Nel et al. 2005: 67; Makarkin & Archibald 2013: 127; Archibald et al. 2014: 191; Makarkin 2014: 4; Archibald & Makarkin 2015: 365, 366.
Type species. Cimbrochrysa moleriensis Schlüter, 1982 View in CoL , by original designation.
Emended diagnosis. May be distinguished from other genera of Nothochrysinae by a combination of the following. Forewing: (1) im broad, pentagonal [ Stephenbrooksia View in CoL : very long, narrow; Archaeochrysa View in CoL , Dyspetochrysa View in CoL , Lithochrysa Carpenter, 1935 View in CoL , Palaeochrysa Scudder, 1883 View in CoL , Tribochrysa Scudder, 1883 View in CoL : elongate]; (2) 2m-cu located approximately in middle of im [ Pseudochrysopa Makarkin & Archibald, 2013 View in CoL , Dyspetochrysa View in CoL , Lithochrysa View in CoL , Palaeochrysa View in CoL , Tribochrysa View in CoL , Nothochrysa View in CoL , Pronothochrysa View in CoL : in proximal part of im; Kimachrysa, Pimachrysa View in CoL , Pamochrysa View in CoL , Hypochrysa View in CoL , Asthenochrysa View in CoL : proximad im]; (3) 2m-cu located distad proximal branch of CuA [ Asiachrysa View in CoL : proximad]; (4) CuP once forked [ Danochrysa View in CoL : twice forked]; (5) two gradate series in radial space [ Okanaganochrysa View in CoL , Triplochrysa View in CoL : three; Dictyochrysa View in CoL , Adamsochrysa View in CoL : four or more]. Hind wing: (6) MA fused with RP proximally for long distance [ Archaeochrysa View in CoL , Stephenbrooksia View in CoL , Leptochrysa View in CoL : separate].
Species included. C. moleriensis View in CoL (earliest Eocene of the Fur Formation, Denmark); C. americana sp. nov. and C. major sp. nov. (both from the late Eocene of Florissant, Colorado, USA).
Occurrence. The Eocene: early Ypresian of Europe and late Priabonian of North America.
Remarks. We could not examine the holotype of C. moleriensis which is apparently missing from the Fur Museum ( Denmark) where it was deposited according to the original description (Bo Schultz, pers. comm.).
The forewing venation of Cimbrochrysa is most similar to that of Asiachrysa from the Eocene Tadushi Formation of the Russian Far East. These genera differ only in small details and are probably closely related. Green lacewings with venation similar to Cimbrochrysa and Asiachrysa were therefore distributed in Eocene throughout the Holarctic (i.e., Europe, Far Eastern Asia, and western North America).
